HOW TO FACE GLOBALITATION ERA

Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb. First of all, let us praise to the Almighty Allah SWT, because of His Blessing we are able to attend this English speech contest. Secondly, may peace be upon the prophet Muhammad Saw who has guided us from the darkness into the brightness. I would also like to say many thanks to the juries and MC who have given me opportunity to deliver an English speech in front of you all. Ladies and Gentlemen… The topic of my speech is “How to Face Globalization Era”. As we all know, nowadays our world is in globalization era. We often hear it. Globalization is the process of transformation of local or regional phenomena into global or international phenomena. This process is a combination of economic, technological, sociocultural and political forces. In other words, every country in this world can influence other countries. Because of globalization, this world which consists of many countries is like “a global village”. This term refers to the fact that people are considered to live in this planet without borders, without limitation. People are able to access any kinds of information easily. There is no difficulty to communicate, there is no barrier to interact with other people from all over the world. Brothers and sisters… Globalization has various aspects which affect the world, such as: in industry, finance, economy, politics, technology, and socio-culture. If our country wants to survive in this globalization era, we must be smart people. We should take all of the positive effects of globalization and we should not take the negative effects. For example: we need to adopt and learn high technology from developed country in order to develop our country. On the contrary, we must not imitate bad attitudes or behaviors from other countries like free sex and drugs abuse. Brothers and sisters… It is a fact that there are many challenges in globalization era. It cannot be denied that globalization is related with competition and the ability to survive. The question is: what should we do in order to face the globalization era? The first one is, build up and strengthen good characters based on the religion. If we are Moslem, the guide of our lives is Islam. Second, we must master technology in order to develop our country. The last, always be ready to face any kinds of change and competition by preparing and upgrading our skills. Ladies and Gentlemen… Brothers and Sisters… That’s all my speech. A RABBIT AND A CROCODILE

A Little Rabbit and Crocodiles A little rabbit wanted to find some food in a forest. But unfortunetely he found a big river so that he couldn't cross to another side. The rabbit looked around. He got surprised when he saw a huge crocodile floating on the river. The crocodile's eyes watched him out. "Aha!" the little rabbit smiled. He suddenly got an idea. "Hello, my lord crocodile! Would you please come here," he shouted. Hearing the rabbit called him, the crocodile swam closer. "Hmm, what's up?" "I know you're hungry. I'm bringing some food for you and all your friend. You know it's a big cow. I think it would make you so satisfied," the rabbit said. "Really? Where is it?" the crocodile said. "It's in the back of that tree," the rabbit pointed out a tree behind him. "I'll give you, but I must know how many crocodiles are here. Could you call your friend to come?" The crocodile looked happy. Then he called his friends. After a while 20 crocodiles had come. "Ok. Now please stay in line. I'm going to count your number," said the rabbit. All crocodiles moved and made a row. A moment later the big river was covered by crocodiles waiting some food that rabbit promised. The rabbit jumped to the first crocodile's back. He began to count. "One, two, three,..." the rabbit counted by jumping up to crocodiles' back one by one. "nineteen, twenty," After stepping the last crocodile, the rabbit jumped into the river bank and ran into the forest. Then he laughed and shouted, "Stupid!"

BONDOWOSO LOVE STORY

Bondowoso Love Story Long time ago, there was a love story in Bondowoso. The story happened in a junior high school. A young boy fell in love with a young girl. The couple loved each other. But unfortunately their parents didn't agree with the relationship. A few years later, they were successful in the exam. They passed it well. The couple planned to continue to senior high school. Actually, they wanted to go to the same school. But the fact was different. The girl's parent wanted to send her girl to the Islamic boarding school in another town. The time brought them to make a part. But, the distance couldn't separate. They still had a good relationship using mail. They could have in touch using love letter. One day, the boy sent his love letter again. 2 days time, he hoped the letter would have a reply. He waited. Two days, three days, four days, until a week, the letter wasn't replied. The boy was confused. He was upset to know that. He wanted to know her girlfriend's news. But, there was no news at all until the end of the year. 2 years later that was a graduation party of senior high school. The boy received a letter. It wasn't love letter from her girlfriend. But, it was an invitation card. The card was for him. Inside he read "You are invited to come to our wedding party, on August 8, 2004. Yours: Ana and David." The boy couldn't move. He felt his body very heavy. He read again. He knew Ana was his girlfriend. Why did she send him an invitation card like that? A moment later, the boy couldn't see anything in front of him. His sight was black. He tried to walk, but he couldn't. He tried to shout, but no voice came out. "What's happening to me?" the boy whispered.

THE LEGEND OF RAWA PENING

Once upon a time, there was a little poor boy came into a little village. He was very hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked for some food, but nobody cared about him. Nobody wanted to help the little boy. Finally, a generous woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal. When the boy wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a “lesung”, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice. She reminded him, “please remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself. Use this “lesung” as a boat”. The “lesung” was happy and thanked the old woman.The little boy continued his journey. While he was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. “Can I try?” asked the little boy. The crowd laughed mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded. Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it flooded the village. And no one was saved from the water except the little boy and the generous old woman who gave him shelter and meal. As she told him, he used the “lesung” as a boat and picked up the old woman. The whole village became a huge lake. It is now known as Rawa Pening Lake in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia.

THE STORY OF SANGKURIANG AND TANGKUBAN PERAHU MOUNTAIN

Once, there was a kingdom in Priangan Land. Lived a happy family. They were a father in form of dog,his name is Tumang, a mother which was called is Dayang Sumbi, and a child which was called Sangkuriang. One day, Dayang Sumbi asked her son to go hunting with his lovely dog, Tumang. After hunting all day, Sangkuriang began desperate and worried because he hunted no deer. Then he thought to shot his own dog. Then he took the dog liver and carried home. Soon Dayang Sumbi found out that it was not deer lever but Tumang's, his own dog. So, She was very angry and hit Sangkuriang's head. In that incident, Sangkuriang got wounded and scar then cast away from their home. Years go bye, Sangkuriang had travel many places and finally arrived at a village. He met a beautiful woman and felt in love with her. When they were discussing their wedding plans, The woman looked at the wound in Sangkuriang's head. It matched to her son's wound who had left severall years earlier. Soon she realized that she felt in love with her own son. She couldn't marry him but how to say it. Then, she found the way. She needed a lake and a boat for celebrating their wedding day. Sangkuriang had to make them in one night. He built a lake. With a dawn just moment away and the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it. Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. It made the cock crowed for a new day. Sangkuriang failed to marry her. She was very angry and kicked the boat. It felt over and became the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu Bandung.

ROMEO AND JULIET

In the town of Verona there lived two families, the Capulets and the Montagues. They engaged in a bitter feud. Among the Montagues was Romeo, a hot-blooded young man with an eye for the ladies. One day, Romeo attended the feast of the Capulets', a costume party where he expected to meet his love, Rosaline, a haughty beauty from a well-to-do family. Once there, however, Romeo's eyes felt upon Juliet, and he thought of Rosaline no more. The vision of Juliet had been invading his every thought. Unable to sleep, Romeo returned late that night to the Juliet's bedroom window. There, he was surprised to find Juliet on the balcony, professing her love for him and wishing that he were not a "Montague", a name behind his own. "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Romeo was ready to deny his name and professed his love. The two agreed to meet at nine o-clock the next morning to be married. Early the next morning, Romeo came to Friar Lawrence begging the friar to marry him to Juliet. The Friar performed the ceremony, praying that the union might someday put an end to the feud between the two families. He advised Romeo kept the marriage a secret for a time. On the way home, Romeo chanced upon his friend Mercutio arguing with Tybalt, a member of the Capulet clan. That qurreling last caused Merquito died. Romeo was reluctant no longer. He drew his sword and slew Tybalt died. Romeo realized he had made a terrible mistake. Then Friar Lawrence advised Romeo to travel to Mantua until things cool down. He promised to inform Juliet. In the other hand, Juliet's father had decided the time for her to marry with Paris. Juliet consulted Friar Lawrence and made a plot to take a sleeping potion for Juliet which would simulate death for three days. The plot proceeded according to the plan. Juliet was sleeping in death. Unfortunately, The Friar's letter failed to reach Romeo. Under the cover of darkness, he broke into Juliet's tomb. Romeo kissed the lips of his Juliet one last time and drank the poison. Meanwhile, the effects of the sleeping potion wear off. Juliet woke up calling for Romeo. She found her love next to her but was lying dead, with a cup of poison in his hand. She tried to kiss the poison from his lips, but failed. Then Juliet put out his dagger and plunged it into her breast. She died

MALIN KUNDANG

Long time ago, in a small village near the beach in West Sumatera, lived a woman and her son, Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang's father had passed away when he was a baby, and he had to live hard with his mother. Malin Kundang was a healthy, dilligent, and strong child. He usually went to the sea to catch fish, and brought it to his mother, or sold it in the town. One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing as usual, he saw a merchant's ship which was being raided by a small band of pirates. With his brave and power, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. Malin Kundang agreed. Many years later, Malin Kundang became a wealthty merchant, with a huge ship, loads of trading goods, many ship crews, and a beautiful wife. In his journey, his ship landed on a beach. The villagers reconigzed him, and the news ran fast in the town: Malin Kundang became a rich man and now he is here. His mother, in deepful sadnees after years of loneliness, ran to the beach to meet her beloved son again. When the mother came, Malin Kundang, in front of his well dressed wife, his crews and his own gloriness, denied to meet that old, poor and dirty woman. For three times she begged Malin Kundang and for three times yelled at him. At last Malin Kundang said to her "Enough, old woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly peasant!" Then he ordered his crews to set sail. Enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn't apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and set sail. In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late for Malin Kundang to apologized. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship, fell on a small island, and suddenly turned into stone.
